Levant Orchard Apologizes for Displaying Anti-Gay Marriage Sign

It's hard to imagine a more divisive issue in recent years in Maine  than same sex marriage.

This is the third time it's been on the ballot and recent polling shows that Yes on 1 (those favoring same-sex marriage) is slightly ahead, but pollsters are saying that this may be misleading, as those polled may not be giving their true feelings but rather offering a "Yes" because they don't want to appear bigoted, or not inclusive.

Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant, recently placed a "No on 1" sign on their property.

Little did they know that  their small sign would spark a firestorm. Their Facebook page has been visited over 15,000 times in the last few days, with many posters promising a boycott of the orchard, and others supporting the business. Many of the comments have been bordering on offensive, calling the family intolerant, bigoted and other "names."

Subsequently, the family removed the sign, and posted a disclaimer on their Facebook page. Here's a link to their Facebook page.

It's funny, because there are quite a few businesses in Bangor and surrounding towns that have placed "Yes on 1" signs in their windows, and there hasn't been the controversy that the Treworgy Family Orchard's sign has generated. No one questions the "right" of a business to display a political sign, but the question I would like you to answer is this:
