The MDI Girls defeated the Foxcroft Academy Ponies Monday, January 21 in an afternoon game played on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor, by the score of 78-35.

MDI was on the scoreboard first, when Sarah Phelps scored with 7:23 remaining, and it was 2-0 Trojans. Foxcroft Academy answered 18 seconds later, when Mackenzie Coiley drained a 3-pointer and Foxcroft Academy was up 3-2. That would be the last lead for the Ponies, as MDI went on a 17-0 run and with 53.4 seconds left in the 1st Quarter, MDI led 19-3. During the run, Emily Lewis scored 6 points, Sarah Phelps scored 5 points including a 3-pointer, Abby Jewett 2 points, Hannah Shaw 2 points and Kelsey Shaw 2 points. Brittany Dyer stopped the bleeding scoring a basket for Foxcroft Academy with 13 seconds left, and then Sierra Tapley's basket went in at the buzzer for MDI and the Trojans led at the end of the 1st Quarter 21-5.

MDI went on a 6-0 run to start the 2nd Quarter. Sara Norberg had 2 points and Kelsey Shaw 4 points and the Trojans lead was 27-5 with 6 :03 remaining. Monica Miles went 2-2 from the free throw line and with 5:38 left it was MDI 27 Foxcroft Academy 7. Hannah Shaw then scored for MDI, Coiley went 1-2 from the free throw line for Foxcroft and then Hannah Shaw's basket went in, and she made the free throw after being fouled, and MDI led 32-8 with 4:29 remaining. Brittany Dyer's basket with 3:58 left made it 32-10, but then Hannah Shaw made consecutive baskets for MDI to extend the lead to 36-10 with 3:12 remaining in the half. Coiley's shot went in, and she completed the 3 point play, draining her free throw, and then Madison Chadbourne went 1-2 from the free throw line and it was MDI 36 Foxcroft Academy 14 with 2:42 remaining in the half. Abby Jewett scored for MDI followed by Coiley going 1-2 from the free throw line and it was MDI 38 FA 15 with 1:40 left in the half. Hannah Shaw's basket and free throw made it 41-15 and the half ended with Molly Carroll's basket and after the 1st Half, MDI was up top 43-15.

MDI started on a 6-0 run in the 3rd Quarter with 4 points from Hannah Shaw and 2 points from Phelps. Coiley then scored for FA, followed by a Phelps 2 for MDI before Coiley scored again for FA, and with 5:15 remaining in the 3rd Quarter MDI was up 51-19. Hannah Shaw then went 1-2 from the free throw line followed by a basket and MDI led 54-19 with 4:30 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. Madison Chadbourne scored for the Ponies followed by another basket by Hannah Shaw for the Trojans. Foxcroft Academy went on a 6-0 run, with Dyer scoring 2, Chadbourne 2 and Tia Tondreau 2 and with 2:04 remaining in the 3rd Quarter MDI led 58-29. The Trojans ended the 3rd Quarter with baskets by Molly Carroll and Sara Norberg and led after 3 Quarters 62-29.

In the 4th Quarter Brittany Dyer got Foxcroft Academy on the board first with a basket with 7:23 ledft and it was 62-31. Kelsey Shaw went 2-2 from the free throw line for MDI with 7:11 left and it was 64-31. Monica Miles fouled out for FA with 6:50 left, and Norberg went 1-2 from the free throw line and it was 65-31 Trojans.Chadbourne scored followed by Tondreau and it was 65-35 with 5:24 remaining. Norberg answered for MDI with 4:48 left and it was 67-35. Madison Chadbourne fouled out for Foxcroft Academy with 3:45 left and Molly Carroll made 1-2 from the free throw line. Carroll then sank a basket followed by Sierra Tapley going 2-2 from the free throw line and Shelby O'Neil going 2-2 from the free throw line and it was 74-35 MDI with 2:16 left. Sierra Tapley scored the final 2 baskets for the Trojans who came away with the 78-35 victory.

MDI improves to 11-1 on the season and will next play Presque Isle, Friday January 25th at 6 PM. MDI will look to avenge their lone loss of the season. That game will be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Foxcroft Academy falls to 0-12 on the season and next plays Thursday, January 24th when they will travel to Dexter to play the Dexter Tigers.
