MDI Girls Fall to Presque Isle
It was a magical season, and the MDI Girls looked to continue their season, hoping to beat Presque Isle in the Eastern Maine Class B semi-finals in a game that was played Wednesday February 20th at the Bangor Auditorium. The winner would take on Nokomis from Newport, who beat Camden Hills 45-40. MDI was 18-2 entering the game, with their two losses coming at the hands of Presque Isle.
The game started off wrong for MDI, as Presque Isle took an early lead, and MDI was having difficulty with the Presque Isle press. But a early timeout called by Coach Brent Barker seemed to settle down MDI, and they went out to a 10-9 lead after the 1st Quarter. MDI was led by Molly Carroll with 4 points in the 1st Quarter., While Megan Ireland had 5 points for Presque Isle.
MDI increased their lead to 24-22 at the half, and it would have been more, but Presque Isle scored 5 points in the last 30 seconds of the half. MDI's Hannah Shaw heated up, scoring 10 of her 14 points on the night in the 2nd Quarter. MDI shot very well from the free throw line, going 6-8 in the half. For Presque Isle Chandler Guerrette scored 6 points in the 2nd Quarter.
The 3rd Quarter was back and forth but at the end MDI led 36-35. Sarah Phelps scored 7 points in the 3rd Quarter for MDI including a 3 pointer. For Presque Isle Hannah Graham scored 7 in the quarter, including a 3 pointer. The Trojans were smelling upset.
Alas it wasn't to be. Presque Isle started raining down 3 pointers, 4 of them to be exact in the 4th Quarter, 3 of them by Megan Ireland who scored 12 points in the 4th quarter and finished with a game high 24 points including 4 3 pointers. Chandler Guerrette also had a 3 pointer for Presque Isle. Presque Isle outscored MDI 27-12 in the final quarter.
Presque Isle finished the night 11-13 from the free throw line and scored 7 3's. MDI finsihed 9-14 from the free throw line.
Congratulations to MDI's seniors, Abby Jewett, Bailey Burr and Emily for their leadership and accomplishments on the basketball court during their career.
