MDI Comes From Behind To Beat Bapst

Things didn't start out well for the MDI Trojans at the Bangor Auditorium when they played the John Bapst Crusaders, Wednesday, December 12th.

They were coming off a loss to Washington Academy in the opening game of the season, after leading by 14 in the 4th Quarter on Friday, December 8th.

MDI trailed after the 1st Quarter 12-9, as the Trojans were unable to pound the ball inside as the Crusaders played zone. MDI was trailing 16-9 with 1:08 having been played in the 2nd Quarter, and it was 18-9 John Bapst after Riley Tapley's shot went in. MDI closed the gap to 3 just before the half ended, but Cody Lyons drained a three at the buzzer, giving John Bapst a 25-19 lead.

MDI's defense stiffened in the 3rd Quarter. and it was 28-29 with 1:58 left in the 3rd Quarter. MDI held John Bapst to just five points in the 3rd Quarter, and after 3, it was John Bapst 30 MDI 28.

MDI took the lead for good 31-30 with 18 seconds gone in the 4th Quarter as Jon Phelps hit a 3 pointer for the Trojans. Then Woofie Kaiser was fouled, and a technical foul was called on John Bapst's Sam Brown. Kaiser hit one of two free throws, and Senior Ben Walls drained the two free throws from the technical foul, and the lead was 8 for the Trojans with 5:34 left in the game. John Bapst was able to cut the lead to three in the final two minutes, but MDI prevailed, winning 43-37.

Ben Walls was the high scorer in the game, scoring 18 points, and he accounted for all of the Trojans' points in the 2nd Quarter, scoring 10. Ripley Tapley was the leading scorer for John Bapst, with 11 points.

MDI improved to 1-1 on the season while John Bapst fell to 0-2 on the season. The Trojans play host to Bucksport Friday night, December 14th, with the game being aired on AM 1370 WDEA as well as WDEA Internet Radio, with the pregame starting at 6:40 and tip off at 7 PM. John Bapst hosts Ellsworth Saturday, December 15th at the Bangor Auditorium and that game will be aired on AM 1370 WDEA as well as WDEA Internet Radio, with the pregame starting at 6:40 and tip off at 7 PM
