The MDI Boys traveled to Foxcroft Academy Monday, January 7th to make up a game that was postponed from December 19th and came away with a 68-63 victory in a high scoring game, especially in the 4th Quarter when Foxcroft Academy scored 30 points, and MDI 26.

The game started slowly enough, with MDI scoring the first basket, by Jon Phelps with 6:02 left and MDI was up 2-0. Ryan Rebar answered for Foxcroft Academy when he scored and was fouled, and sank the free throw, and with 4:56 left in the 1st Quarter, Foxcroft Academy led 3-2. That would be Foxcroft Academy's last lead, but they were in it to the end, on the strength of their 3 point shooting. With 4:34 left in the1st, Ben Walls hit a 2, giving MDI the lead 4-3, sparking a 8-0 run for the Trojans, and when Walls hit another 2 with 2:50 left, MDI was up 10-3. Rebar hit the first of his four 3-pointers on the night with 2:05 left in the 1st, making the score 10-6 MDI and Jon Phelps answered for the Trojans with 1:45 left, making the score 13-6. The 1st Quarter ended with MDI up 15-8.

In the 2nd Quarter Keegan McKim started things off for MDI draining a 2, and the lead was 17-8. With 6:42, McKim fouled FA's Caleb Richard while in the act of shooting a 3, and Richard went to the line and sank all 3 foul shots making the score 19-11 MDI. Woofie Kaiser scored his first basket for MDI with 6:25 left and MDI led 21-11. It was 23-14 MDI when Kaleb Smith hit the first of his four 3-pointers with 3:15 left, and the Trojan lead was 23-13. Foxcroft Academy cut the lead to 6 when Hunter Smith hit a 3 with 3:15 left and it was 25-19. When Kaleb Smith hit another 3 with 2:51 left the lead was 25-22, and then MDI went on a 5 point run culminated by Ben Walls 3 with 1:42 left and the Trojans led 30-22. With 1.7 second left Ben Walls went 1-2 from the free throw, and MDI led 31-24 at the half.

In the 3rd Quarter Rebar hit a 2 pointer for FA and it was 31-26. Kolby Kendall went 2-2 from the free throw line with 7:03 left and MDI led 33-28. Jon Phelps buried a 2 with 5:35 left and MDI was up 35-28. MDI was on another 8-0 when Colin Mooers threw the ball the length of the court with 2:55 to Ben Walls who hit the lay-up and MDI was up 41-28. Rebar hit a 2 and the free throw with 2:35 left, and it as 41-31. Adam Gray went 1-2 from the free throw line with 1:55 left and MDI was up 42-33 which is how the 3 rd Quarter ended.

Then, the scoring explosion started in the 4th Quarter! Rebar with 7:42 hit his second 3 pointer of the game, and it was 42-36 MDI. Phelps went 2-2 from the free throw line with 7:32 left and it was 44-36. FA's Kolby Kendall fouled out with 6:39 left and Phelps made 1-2 from the free throw line and it was 45-36. Kaiser hit a 2 for MDI, with 5:41 left and it was 47-36. Rebar answered for FA, draining his 2 and hitting the foul shot and with 5:22 left it was 47-39. Walls went 2-2 from the line with 5:11 left and it was 49-39. Sam Keane went 1-2 from the line for FA with 5:00 left and it was 49-40. With 4:39 left, Jon Phelps was fouled while shooting but made the basket and sank the free throw, and MDI led 52-40. Kaleb Smith hit a 3 pointer for FA with 4:11 left, and it was 52-43. Walls went 1-2 from the free throw line with 4:06 left and it was 53-43. Rebar got FA to withing 7 with 3:59 left when his basket went in and he drained the free throw, and it was 53-46 MDI. Hunter Smith went 1-2 from the free throw line with 3:24 left and it was 55-47. Kaleb Smith hit 2 of 3 free throws when he was fouled by Ben Walls with 3:17 left and it was 55-49. Walls answered for MDI going 2-2 from the foul line and with 3:06 MDI was up 57-49. With 2:18 left Hunter Law went 2-2 from the foul line for FA, and it was 61-51 MDI. Rebar hit a 3, with 1:01 left and it was 61-54. Adam Gray sank 2 free throws for MDI with 39.2 seconds left and it was 63-54. Rebar with 28.8 seconds left drained another 3, and it was 63-57. Walls' shot went in, as did his free throw and it was 66-57 MDI. With 15 seconds left Hunter Smith hit a 3 pointer, and it was 66-60. With 11.1 seconds left Adam Gray went 2-2 from the line for MDI and the lead was 68-60, and with 4.1 seconds left, Hunter Smith hit his second 3 pointer for FA, finishing out the scoring 68-63.

Foxcroft Academy had ten 3 pointers, six of them coming in the 4th Quarter! Rebar led Foxcroft Academy with 26 points, including four 3 pointers. FA was 15-20 from the free throw line. Ben Walls led MDI with scoring with 22 points, with one 3 pointer, and going 9-11 from the free throw line. Jon Phelps had 16 points including a 3 pointer for MDI. MDI was 4-10 from the free throw line through three quarters, but went 13-15 in the final quarter, ending up 17-25.

With the win, MDI improves to 6-2 and will next play Hermon on Wednesday January 9th in Bar Harbor. Foxcroft Academy falls to 2-7 and their next game is Wednesday, January 7th when they play PCHS.
