MDI Boys Fall to Presque Isle

The MDI Boys Basketball team fell to Presque Isle 57-50, Saturday, December 29th in Presque Isle. It was a game marked by runs, but the Trojans came up short.

Presque Isle jumped out to an early 15-5 lead, and at the end of the 1st Quarter it was Presque Isle 18-12. Presque Isle was 5-5 from the free throw line, while MDI did not get to the charity stripe once.

With 3:40 left in the 2nd Quarter, MDI went on a 8-0 run, and with the score 20-18, MDI led for the first time in the game. With 2:26 left in the 2nd, Presque Isle scored it's first points in the 2nd Quarter, as Tyler Brooks went 1-2 from the free throw line. That stopped a MDI 12-0 run, and the score was 24-19 Trojans. With 2:20 left in the 1st Half, MDI's Abe Philbrook connected on a shot and was fouled and sank the free throw. The score was MDI 27 Presque Isle 19 and this marked the 1st time that MDI had been to the free throw line in the game. At the buzzer, Presque Isle's Cody Lyford hit a 3 pointer and the half ended with Presque Isle had the lead 28-27. Presque Isle scored 10 points in the final 2:26 minutes of the half, and was 10-12 from the free throw line in the 1st half, while MDI was 1-1.

In the 3rd Quarter, Presque Isle's Jonah Stephenson stole the show. He hit 3 3-pointers and another field goal, and scored 11 of Presque Isle's 19 points. Presque Isle outscored MDI 19-8 in the 3rd Quarter and led 47-35.

much to overcome. Abe Philbrook was the leading scorer for MDI with 15 points while Bradley Shields scored 15 for Presque Isle and had numerous blocked shots. Presque Isle ended up 14-21 from the free throw line, while MDI went 8-12.

With the loss, MDI falls to 3-2 on the season, while Presque Isle improves to 6-1. MDI's next game is Wednesday, January 2nd when they play host to John Bapst in a game that may be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:40. Presque Isle's next game is Saturday January 5th when they travel to Hermon to take on the Hermon Hawks.
