The MDI Boys were looking for a little revenge! They had just come off an emotional win against Presque Isle on Friday January 25th beating them 49-48 to avenge their loss to the Wildcats in Aroostook County on December 29th. Then, they lost to Caribou on Saturday, January 26th 49-46. So, the Trojans were coming off a loss and they were playing Washington Academy, who had stunned them in the opening game of the season back on December 8, 2012 by the score of 66-61.

MDI came out flying! They were on a 11-0 run on the strength of Ben Walls 7 points including a 3 pointer, Jon Phelps 3 points (1-2 from the free throw line) and Abe Philbrook going 1-2 from the free throw line. Washington Academy finally scored with 4:49 left in the 1st Quarter as Jacob Schoppee drained a 3 pointer and it was 11-3 MDI. Schoppee then connected on another 3 pointer with 4:16 left, and MDI led 11-6. Colin Mooers scored for MDI with 3:50 left and MDI was up top 13-6. Austin Seavey answered for the Raiders with 3:05 left and it was 13-8 MDI. Phelps scored for MDI with 2:59 left followed by a Schoppee 2 for Washington Academy with 2:42 left and MDI led 15-10. Ben Walls scored for MDI with 46 seconds remaining in the 1st Quart and then Austin Seavey scored for Washington Academy with 33 seconds remaining  making the score 17-12 MDI. The scoring ended in the 1st Quarter when Jon Phelps  scored within the paint, and MDI led at the end of the 1st Quarter 19-12.

Austin Seavey cut the lead to 5 when his basket counted for Washington Academy with 7:42 left in the half, and the score was 19-14. Ben Walls answered scoring a 2, followed by a 3 pointer, and then Jon Phelps added 2 more for MDI and the Trojans were up by 12, 26-14 with 6 minutes remaining in the 1st half. Seavey scored for Washington Academy, then Woofie Kaiser scored for MDI followed by a Phelps 3 pointer and with 4:25 remaining in the 2nd Quarter, MDI was up by 15 points, 31-16. Seavey scored for W.A. with 3:47 remaining, followed by another 2 pointer for Kaiser for MDI then Austin Seavey was fouled and his basket counted and he made the free throw, and it was MDI 33 Washington Academy 21 with 3:25 left in the half. Gage Feeney went 2-2 from the free throw line for Washington Academy and then Fred McLean scored a basket with 2:22 left and the Trojan's lead was 33-25.MDI's Abe Philbrook went 1-2 from the free throw line, followed by McLean shooting 1-2 from the line for W.A. before Gage Feeney went 2-2 from the free throw line and sank a basket, and with 56 seconds remaining, the MDI lead was down to4, 34-30. Ben Walls answered for MDI with 33 seconds scoring again, and it was 36-30 before Fred MacLean went 2-2 from the free throw line with 17.1 seconds left, and the 1st Half ended with MDI up 36-32.

Walls opened the scoring for MDI in the 3rd Quarter with 7:45 left, scoring 2, and it was 38-32 MDI. Andrew Farnsworth went 1-2 for the Raiders with 7:36 remaining, and it was 38-33. Tyler Varner drained a long 3 pointer with 7:15 for Washington Academy and the lead was 2, 38-36 Trojans. Walls scored followed by Phelps and with 6:16, MDI led 42-36. Feeney answered for Washington Academy followed by Seavey, and the lead was 42-40 Trojans with 4:29 left in the 3rd Quarter. Phelps then drained a 3 pointer for MDI followed by Schoppee going 2-2 from the line, and Feeney going 2-2 before MDI's Adam Gray's basket counted and he made the free throw after being fouled and MDI was up 48-44 with 3:47 left in the 3rd Quarter. Schoppee thren drained his 3rd 3 pointer of the night with 1:44 left, and the lead was just 1 point, 48-47 MDI. Andrew Davis, coming off the bench for MDI sank a basket with 1:00 left followed by Feeney scoring for WA, Walls for MDI and the scoring ended in the 3rd Quarter with 17 seconds left after Gage Feeney knocked in his 16th point of the gamem, and the 3rd Quarter ended with MDI up top 52-51.

Fred MacLean gave Washington Academy the first lead of the night sinking a 3 pointer with 6:55 left and WA led 54-52. Woofie Kaiser sank a basket for MDI followed by Feeney for WA and then Andrew Davis knotted the score at 56-56 sinking two throws for MDI with 6:02 left in the game. Woofie Kaiser then sank consecutive baskets for MDI and with 4:44 left, the Trojans led 60-56.Feeney scored his team high 20th point for Washington Academy sinking another basket with 4:02 left, and the lead was 2 points again, 60-58 MDI Kaiser then went 2-2 from the free throw line, and MDI's lead was 4 points 62-58. Austin Seavey scored for WA, followed by a Wall's 3 pointer, his third of the night for MDI and then Seavey scored his 16th and 17th point and with 1:51 left the Trojans led 65-62. Kaiser went 1-2 from the free throw line, followed by Walls going 2-2 and Phelps going 1-2, and with 20.9 seconds left MDI led 69-62. Schoppee scored for the Raiders with 11.7 seconds left followed by Adam Gray sinking 2-2 from the free throw line, and MDI came away with the hard fought victory 71-64.

With the victory MDI improves their record to 12-3, while Washington Academy falls to 7-8 on the season. The Trojans next play on Wednesday January 30th w they host the Old Town Coyotes in a game that may be heard on WDEA AM1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Washington Academy's next game is Saturday. February 2nd, when they travel to Foxcroft Academy to play the Ponies.
