MDI Boys Beat Presque Isle

The MDI Boys were looking for a little revenge after losing to Presque Isle on December 29th up in Aroostook County and got it last night, defeating Presque Isle 49-48 in a game played January 25th at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor.

MDI jumped out to a early 2-0 lead as Jon Phelps scored with 7:50 left and Ben Walls put MDI up 4-0 when he scored with 6:34 remaining in the 1st Quarter. Bradley Shields put Presque Isle on the scoreboard with 6:20 remaining but Adam Gray went 2-2 form the free throw line followed by a basket and with 3:25 left in the 1st Quarter MDI led 8-2. Jonah Stephenson went 1-2 from the free throw line with 1:55 remaining and it was 8-3. Ben Walls then scored for MDI with 1:35 left and Ben Nickerson scored for Presque Isle with 1:02 left and MDI was up 10-5. Colin Mooers scored for MDI as did Andrew Davis and at the end of the 1st Quarter MDI led Presque Isle by the score of 14-5.

Ben Walls started things off for MDI in the second quarter, going 2-2 from the free throw line and the Trojans led 16-5. Shields then went 1-2 for Presque Isle and then Davis scored for MDI and it was 18-6 MDI with 6:40 remaining in the half. Ben Nickerson went 1-2 from the free throw line and then Woofie Kaiser scored for MDI and it was 20-7 MDI with 3:30 left. Presque Isle's Jonah Stephenson went 1-2 from the free throw line and then Michael Boone hit a 3-pointer for Presque Isle and the lead was 20-11 MDI with 2:45 left. Ben Walls then scored for MDI followed by Karson Eaton for Presque Isle and the score was 22-13 MDI with 2:14 remaining. Walls then went 2-2 from the free throw line and Ben Nickerson went 2-2 from the free throw line for Presque Isle and it was 24-15 MDI with 1:15 remaining. Colin Mooers scored for MDI with 45 seconds left and Ben Walls went 1-2 from the free throw line and it was 29-17 MDI. Stephensons shot with 2 seconds left ended the scoring in the half with MDI up 29-19.

Colin Mooers started the scoring for MDI in the 3rd Quarter scoring and it was 31-19 MDI. But Presque Isle  went on a 7-0 run as Shields went 1-2 from the line and Stephenson scored followed by two consecutive baskets by Karson Eaton and MDI led 31-26. Adam Gray went 1-2 from the free throw line and Ben Walls hit two consecutive baskets and MDI's lead was back up to 10, 36-26. But, Stephenson hit a 3 pointer followed by Chase Norton scoring at the buzzer for Presque Isle and at the end of 3 Quarters, MDI led 36-31.

Keegan McKim started the scoring for MDI in the 4th Quarter with 6:04 left scoring a basket and MDI led 38-31. Stephenson answered for Presque Isle and Abe Philbrook scored for MDI and with 5:40 left it was 40-33. Stephenson then hit a 3-pointer for Presque Isle to make the score 40-36 with 5:30 remaining in the game. Woofie Kaiser's basket with 5 minutes left made it 42-36. Nickerson scored for Presque Isle followed by McKim going 1-2 from the free throw line for MDI before Stephenson went 1-2 for Presque Isle and Nickerson's basket, and with 1:33 remaining it was 43-41 MDI. Colin Mooers went 1-2 from the free throw line for MDI and when Stephenson's basket went in with 1:06 left the game the score was 44-43. Adam Gray then scored a basket and converted the free throw and with 58 seconds remaining MDI led 47-43. Jon Phelps then went 1-2 from the free throw line with 16 seconds left and it was 48-43. Jacob Williams then scored for Presque Isle with 8 seconds remaining and MDI led 48-45. Ben Walls went 1-2 from the free throw line with 5 seconds left and it was 49-45 before Stephenson's 3 at the buzzer went in making the final score 49-48 for the MDI Trojans.

Jonah Stephson had 20 points for Presque Isle, hitting 3 3-pointers while MDI was led by Ben Walls with 14 points. Presque Isle played without Tyler Brooks who was suffering from concussion like symptoms.Presque Isle falls to 11-3 while MDI improves to 11-2.
