It's hard to believe, but it's the last week of the regular season of high school basketball before the play-offs begin next Tuesday, February 12th for the girls and Wednesday, February 13th for the boys. In Class B, the top 13 teams make the playoffs with the top 3 teams earning byes, and advancing immediately to the Bangor Auditorium for the playoffs that begin on Friday, February 15th.

As of Monday morning, February 11th, the MDI Boy's and Girl's Teams have 2 games remaining, as do the Ellsworth Boy's and Girl''s Teams.

MDI Boys

Currently sit in 2nd place with a 13-3 record. Their remaining games this week are:

Wednesday February 6th 7 PM at Hermon and Friday, February 8th 7 PM at Ellsworth. Both games will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:40 on Wednesday and 6:15 on Friday the 8th. If MDI wins out they should earn a top 3 position and will have an automatic bye.

MDI Girls

They have a record of 14-2 and are in place as of Monday morning. They have 2 games remaining. Tuesday February 5th home against Hermon and Thursday, February 7th against Ellsworth in Breast Cancer Awareness Night with Pink T-Shirts on sale. The Thursday February 7th game will be on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:15 and Tip Off at 7 PM. If the MDI Trojans win out they will finish 4th or 5th in Class B and will host a prelim game on Tuesday February 12th against the 13th or 12th seed with the winner advancing to Bangor.

Ellsworth Boys

They have a record of 6-10 and are currently in 16th place, 3 games out of the 13th and final playoff spot. The Ellsworth Eagles play at Washington Academy on Tuesday, February 5th and then home against MDI on Friday, February 8th 7 PM at Ellsworth. Both games will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:40 on Tuesday and 6:15 on Friday the 8th. The Ellsworth Boys likely need to win out to finish 12th or 13th and would play the 4th or 5th seed on the road on Wednesday, February 15th if they make the playoffs.

Ellsworth Girls

The Ellsworth Girls enter the week with a 10-6 record and sit in 8th place. The Lady Eagles have a game tonight in Blue Hill against George Steven's Academy and then in Bar Harbor on Thursday against MDI on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Tonight's game will tip off at 7 with the pregame starting at 6:40 and Thursday's pregame will begin at 6:15. Both games will be heard on AM 1370 WDEA and on WDEA Internet Radio. The Ellsworth Girls are assured of a play-in game on Tuesday, February 12th and if they finish 8th or better will host the play-in game with the winner advancing to the Bangor Auditorium.
