In the Battle of the Eagles, it was the Ellsworth Eagles coming out on top, as the Ellsworth Girls beat GSA 46-32 in a game played Friday, December 21 at Katsiaficas Gym in Ellsworth.

Ellsworth led from the beginning, and it was 3-0 Ellsworth when Taylor White sank 1 of 2 free throws with 5:41 left in the 1st Quarter. Morgan Card made it 5-0 Ellsworth when she sank both of her free throws with 5:13 left in the 1st Quarter. GSA's Maddie Gray drained a 3 with 3:33 left in the quarter and Ellsworth led 5-3. Card stole the ball and scored on a lay-up and it was 9-3 with 1:40 left. The final score in the 1st Quarter saw Annika Firestone receive a beautiful bounce pass from Morgan Card, and Firestone scored on a lay-up and Ellsworth had the lead 11-3.

It was 20-9 Ellsworth at the half. Mary Prescott for GSA hit a 3 during the 2nd Quarter and Taylor White for Ellsworth scored 4 points.

In the 3nd Quarter with 4:44 left Jennifer McKenney hit a 3 for GSA and the lead was 22-14 Ellsworth. Taylor White hit a field goal and drained her free throw after the fould, and with 2:56 left, Ellsworth led 28-16. It was 29-16 with 1:31 left when Card made 1 of 2 free throws and at the end of the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth led 30-20.

In the 4th Quarter, with 5:15 left Annika Firestone hit a 3 for Ellsworth, and Ellsworth led 37-25. It was 39-27 Ellsworth when Card went 2 for 2 from the free throw line with 3:53 left. GSA closed the lead to 7 when Charlotte Reiter hit a 3, but missed her foul shot, and the score was Ellsworth 39-32 with 3:26 left to play. That was as close as it got, as Ellsworth outscored GSA 7-0 and the final score was 46-32.

With the victory, Ellsworth improves to 3-2, and GSA falls to 1-4. Ellsworth is off until Thursday December 27 when they travel to Aroostook County to play Caribou followed by Presque Isle on December 29. GSA plays host to Central next, on Thursday, December 27.
